Classes We Offer

We offer an number of classes that cover various quilting and fiber arts projects.

  • Please read carefully before registering for class! Register by phone 780-433-7179
  • Class fees are required at time of registration; classes are filled on a first-come basis with full payment
  • Classes will be cancelled and a full refund issued if insufficient registration
    No refunds, credits or class transfers if you are unable to attend you may send someone in your place
  • Material/preparation sheets will be emailed upon registration
  • Materials must be purchased before class; Earthly Goods quality fabrics and notions are preferred
    Classes begin on time, please come prepared
  • Due to allergies, please refrain from wearing perfume or scented products in class

  • Rotary Cutter Basics (6 hours)

    Learn basic rotary cutting techniques as well as that perfect 1/4” seam allowance and proper pressing methods to start your quilting journey in the right direction. The basic rotary cutting skills of safety, maintenance and handling of the Olfa cutter, mat and Omnigrid rulers will be covered as you learn to measure and cut geometric shapes and strips quickly, accurately and safely with no templates. With a few simple exercises, you will find your perfect  1/4” seam allowance, crucial for accurate piecing and quilt construction. Finally, you will learn proper pressing techniques which will help you achieve those “perfect” blocks we all aim for!

  • Primarily Patchwork-Block Construction (12 hours)

    Saturdays, September 15 & 22, 2018    9-4pm

    This sampler-style quilt top is an excellent course for the beginning quilter or those wanting to update their quilting skills. Use the rotary cutter to practice accurate cutting, sewing a perfect ¼” seam allowance and proper pressing techniques. You will receive guidance from your instructor to build skill and confidence in making your quilt blocks. Some homework is required. Instructions included to complete 12 blocks.   • Primarily Patchwork-Quilt Construction (12 hours)

    Saturdays, October 13 & 20, 2018   9-4pm

    Beginner

    $98, includes handouts

    Learn to accurately square up your quilt blocks and to add sashing and borders without puckers. Choose from a straight set or diagonal set and take on the added challenge of mitered corners! Batting types for your particular project will be discussed. You will complete the course with your quilt layered, basted and ready for quilting. Applies to six block quilts only. Some homework will be required. Pre-requisite: Primarily Patchwork Block Construction

  • Foundation Piecing (6 hours)

    Saturday, August 11, 2018   9-4pm

    Beginner

    $55, includes pattern

    Sometimes called “foundation piecing”, or “paper piecing”, this technique consists of sewing pieces of fabric on to a paper foundation, thereby allowing the quilter to construct complicated patterns easily and accurately. If you love long, slender, pointy spikes with precise piecing, you will discover how quickly you will be able to create magic with this technique. Pre-requisite: Rotary Cutting Basics & More

  • Quilt Binding (6 hours)

The Elephant Abstractions quilt project has taken the quilting industry by storm. If you have been over whelmed by just the pattern, this class is designed to calm your fears! Design Your Own Thicket Quilt

Join Patti as she walks you through the steps required to create your own unique quilt using panels from the Thicket Critter collection. Learn to draft your own layout, discuss techniques required to complete the various sized blocks, including “slab blocks” and easy foundation paper piecing (FPP). Several FPP patterns will be provided for your personal use. Finished size of your quilt is up to you (quilt measures approx. 63” x 75”).

Using a freezer-paper method and straight-line pattern, learn the precise application. Combine bold prints and interesting backgrounds to create your own unique Barnyard  Queen.

Patti will show you how to use precision cut, paper shapes to hand baste your fabric around in preparation for the easy English Paper Piecing hand-stitching method used to sew the shapes together. This introductory class will provide you with necessary information and details to get started on your own Gypsy Wife quilt. Easy As ABC
